Sharon Meieran has dedicated her career to serving others. As an emergency physician, volunteer street medicine provider, lawyer, children's advocate, and mental health advocate, she has spent decades doing the work Multnomah County exists to do—helping people facing illness, mental illness, addiction, and other crises. Working on the front lines with the people most directly affected by County policies has shaped Sharon’s values and her approach to public service.

Over the years, Sharon has built coalitions to solve problems no single agency could tackle alone. She led successful statewide efforts to improve care for people with opioid addiction and to better coordinate care for frequent emergency department patients. When Multnomah County's ambulance system was failing and emergency response times became dangerously delayed, she rallied the public and brought together Portland and East County governments, firefighters, physicians, and community leaders to force the County to fix it.

Sharon is the only candidate for County Chair with a comprehensive plan to turn Multnomah County around. Developed in collaboration with experts in mental health, addiction, homelessness, and public safety, the plan defines clear goals, measures results, ties spending to outcomes, and holds the County accountable for every public dollar.

Sharon received Kaiser Permanente's National Service Award, was named the Oregon Medical Association's Doctor-Citizen of the Year, and was honored by NAMI Oregon for her leadership in improving mental health care.

That's the leadership Multnomah County needs now and no one is better prepared to deliver it.
