During my time as Mayor of Troutdale, I had the fortunate experiences on multiple occasions to work with Dr. Meieran on various issues plaguing Troutdale and Multnomah county. She was forthright, logical, reasonable, and professional. Sharon approached difficulties with the same amount of care I’d wish for any county commissioner to possess. Sharon is uniquely qualified to lead Portland and Multnomah county out of the persistent crisis of homelessness, substance abuse, and mental health care. Her credentials as an MD, emergency physician and JD are ideal for this critically important job, and her smarts, pragmatism and engagement are beyond exemplary. I have had little faith in the previous approach of just throwing money at this complex problem, and it is absolutely clear that did not work at all.

The solution is a multidisciplinary, intelligent, and comprehensive systematic creation and funding of essential building blocks for enduring solutions that are financially viable. I have not seen wise use of resources in the past two decades in this county but trust Sharon with fiscal discipline and accountability of how tax payer's money is best spent and invested.

Please take the time to read and study her outline of her action plan - it is well thought out and, in my opinion, a feasible, realistic and effective road map to success. I don't mind paying taxes but want my money to go toward intelligent solutions rather than paying for temporary band aids, as has been the case in the recent past. More importantly, the underserved population and the less fortunate among us deserve better. I believe that Sharon will show us that we can.

Our county needs someone who can work with the systems that can make or break how our county operates. Sharon as chair will give our county that opportunity to get systems back on track!

If you’ve followed local politics, you’ve heard the establishment talking points: “She’s too contentious.” “She doesn't build consensus.” “She’s a constant dissenter.”

Let’s be honest about what that actually means.

For years, “consensus” at Multnomah County has meant quietly rubber-stamping hundreds of millions of dollars into dysfunctional administrative layers, vague program goals, and automatic budget renewals without asking for measurable outcomes. It has meant watching severe addiction, mental health crises, and homelessness spiral while bureaucracy expands.

Sharon didn’t play along. As an ER doctor and an attorney, she saw the direct, human cost of county policy failures every single day. She refused to sit quietly on the Board of Commissioners and pretend the system was working just to keep the political peace. She pushed back, demanded real-time data, and voted NO on spending that lacked clear chains of command or performance metrics.

Her critics call that being "difficult." I call it a refusal to play politics as usual with public funds.

We don't need another smooth insider focused on managing optics or pleasing special interest groups. We need an executive who isn't afraid to ruffle feathers, challenge administrative inertia, and completely overhaul how this county operates. Her platform isn't vague promises—it’s a concrete, outcome-based blueprint to consolidate redundant departments and create a centralized, accountable command structure for our safety net.
